A month off

I really didn’t write much or spend that much time writing any blogs before I decided to take a month off, but, I did it anyways.  PHATO Productions Blog is back up and in action so, sorry about the lack of posts, and be sure to keep checking back as I praise, bash, and review the technology industry.

Gonna Start A-Fresh

Phat PonderingHello to all my 1 readers out there (myself). I decided that I would start writing again and here is my first post after about 6-7 months (not that I had very many before that).

A few of the things I will be covering in the next few post are things I have learned since my leave of absence. These things are going to mostly contain information about the Mac OS along with my opinion of Vista, some programming things I have learned (PHP, AJAX, Javascript) and some sites that I have worked on, including upcoming projects.

These posts are just to get everyone (once again, only myself) up to speed with the knowledge I have obtained over the past half year. I hope you enjoy!

PPGallery is up - NEW!!!

PPGallery Hi everyone, sorry I haven’t posted in a while. I’ve been a little busy, but I have a new Gallery that I’ve built from the ground up (except for a couple of libraries I used: prototype, scriptaculous, and a tooltip script). Go and check it out here: http://www.phatoproductions.com/gallery

Soon I will allow you all to grab the gallery and use it on your own website. I keep working on it and added new features. It still has some bugs, but works pretty well for the most part. Please give your feedback.

Here is how the gallery works: You upload your photos to a directory in the images directory, then the gallery does the rest of the work. The album name is then determined by the name you gave the directory, for example: “images/My first album/” would have an album name of “My first album”. Like I said the gallery does all the work. The first time anyone visits that albums page, the thumbnails are made and the medium size photos are made. Then from then on if you add more photos to that directory (album) the work will be done for you. If your photos have exif data attached to them, the gallery reads this data and displays it (bug in IE still, working on it though). The gallery paginates itself too, depending on what you tell the config script. All of this will be explained when I release the PPGallery for download. For now, just play around in mine and please let me know what you think by commenting this blog. Thanks and enjoy.

Not Lazy, just busy

Hello everyone, Haven’t posted lately so I thought I would just give you a little update.  This last week I decided to try Parallels desktop for mac.  It was pretty much a waste of time for me.  The performance was so-so, and that just doesn’t work for me.  I gave up on Parallels and decided to try to install Windows on an external hard drive so that I could use my full 100GB hard drive for my mac (I’m using a macbook pro).  Well, I finally got it installed after some tweaking of the windows xp cd and two different xp installs.  I then came to the conclusion that the performance on a external drive was better than parallels, but not what I was used to.  So after all was said and done, I’m back to my original install - Mac partition 60GB and windows partition 40GB on the primary hard drive.  The only difference this time is there is a new version of Boot Camp out and now I can use my isight camera in windows, my screen saver works and I’m just a happy camper.  Now just anticipating the release of Windows Vista and Mac OS X Leopard.

Well, heading out to the movies, have a great labor day weekend everyone and look forward to hearing from me in a couple of days.

PPS Address Book on hold

Alright, so I’m a horrible planner… I’m going to go back and integrate the PPS Address Book into the PHATO Productions Suite. The way that it was being built was as a single application, but in order to integrate it into the suite, I needed to rethink it and build the suite as a single application and build the PPS Address Book as a module of that application. So, I’m not starting from scratch but I’ve got to go back through a lot of my code and redesign it to work differently, in the meantime you can still check out the PPS Address Book until I get it up and running in the PHATO Productions Suite. And yes, this means no registrating for your own address book, but soon enough friends, soon enough.
